HOLLYWOOD "TIL DEATH" COUPLES

While premiering on the E! channel Sunday night, the Keeping Up with the Kardashians Klohe Kardashian and Lamar Odom was a beautiful ceremony packed with family drama in the episode. As the sparks were flying between Klohe and Lamar, I had a few sparks of my own: how dumb is it to get married after dating for a month? Then I though how many Hollywood marriages are just like this one where you know it is going to end. For example, Brittney Spears was married to Jason Allen Alexander for two days. I am not saying Klohe and Lamar are going to last two days because they have already lasted two months, but I am saying that I know this is not a “til death” couple (a couple who is married until one or both die/ no divorce).

Upon this observance, I reviewed some of Hollywood cutest couples. There are some marriages I worry about because we do not know how they are going to turn out. For example, the curse of TV couples like Kendra and Hank, Tori and Dean, and Speidi (Spencer and Heidi Pratt from The Hills). We all see how much they are in love but none of us know how long they will last. Everybody witnessed the Newlywed’s Nick Lachey and Jessica Simpson, Jon and Kate Gosselin (Jon and Kate Plus 8), or even the Bachelor. Another couple I worry about is Nick Cannon and Mariah Carey. They may not be a TV couple but they were so low key when dating and then all of a sudden make this big spectacle when they are married. If you have not been dating long enough to where the public get some sort of hint you are together then you have not been dating long enough. It is sad that most of these marriages are more physical connections than emotional or spiritual. Some Hollywood couples try and make an emotional connection out of the physical and that is why some relationships do not work out.

On a more positive not, there are plenty of couples I am routing for. I really want them to be “til death” couples because there are so few in Hollywood. Couples like Ashton Kutcher and Demi Moore, Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner, Ellen DeGeneres and Porsha de Rossi, Will and Jada Smith, Courtney Cox and David Arquette, Ryan Reynolds and Scarlett Johansson, Fergie and Josh Duhamel, David and Victoria Beckham, Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes, Hank Baskett and Kendra Wilkinson, Eva Longoria and Tony Parker, Heidi and Seal, and Beyonce and Jay-Z need to stay happily married. I would really like to see all these couples be “til death” couples.

On the other hand, there are some dating couples I would like to see get married. Most of these couples are seriously dating and a few already have families, while others are trying to keep their relationship on the down low: Halle Berry and Gabriel Aubrey, Jessica Biel and Justin Timberlake, Nicole Richie and Joel Madden, Blake Lively and Penn Bagely (Gossip Girl stars), Reese Witherspoon and Jake Gyllenhaal, Kim Kardashian and Reggie Bush, Ed Westwick and Jessica Szohr (Gossip Girl stars), Zac Efron and Vanessa Hudgens( High School Musical stars), and Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart (Twilight stars). All of these couples are so cute and have really great chemistry. Then there are couples like Nicole and Halle who need to get married because they already have families with their boyfriends. My overall hope and wish for these couples is to stay together and eventually get married.

In contrast, it is not too good to get attached to Hollywood relationships because nothing is promised. In Hollywood, there are couples who stay together for two days while it is a lot of work keeping those 10 year relationships and longer. Over the years there are plenty of couples we watch hook up, break up, then make up, then break up again. We all know those pairs who have broken up that broke everyone else’s hearts: Chris Brown and Rihanna (a good relationship gone bad), Reese Witherspoon and Ryan Phillippe, Cameron Diaz and Justin Timberlake, and the most heartbreaking of them all….Brad Pitt and Jenifer Aniston. We as spectators cannot get entirely attached to these relationships because Hollywood is always full of something better. Relationships ending make the divorce rate 50% in America but Hollywood has a divorce rate of like 80%. So pray for these Hollywood couples. We would like to see some of these cherished and developed relationships last….til death.
