AVATAR!!!

Ladies and Gentlemen of the public viewing audience, we the jury find the cast and crew of Avatar guilty! Guilty of taking directing to the next level. Guilty of producing a film so intriguing that I did not even noticed it was three hours long. Guilty of making a extraordinary quality film and having their viewers absolutely love it.

Avatar is about a movie of a foreign world with land worth $20 million. Whatever you do, do not compare it to the show because it is nothing like that. You must watch this movie as an entertaining movie alone.

Avatar has only been in theatres for one weekend (technically five days) and made more than Michael Jackson’s This Is It and all other big names that have come through the box office. Avatar has made $77 million in the first weekend and, they have grossed $323 million worldwide; that is phenomenal. In addition, they have picked up four Golden Globe nominations as well as nine other award nominations by the Film Critics Association. The real question is, is this movie all its cooked up to be? Of course I have my personal opinion but you need to be the judge.

As a viewer, I felt that connection with the life of the Na'vi people and their world. The director, James Cameron, did an excellent job of creating this remarkable world where nature is truly at its best. Seeing it in 3D may have messed with my eyes in the beginning but as they slowly adjusted, I felt like I could walk out of my seat onto planet Pandora. This Avatar world had a feeling of peace and serenity when Pandora was in balance. To live in a world as such, looks to come with a sense of freedom as well as community and tradition. The way things were and the whole circle of life thing reminded me of The Lion King along with the intense battle scenes. Pandora was the most beautiful place I have ever seen and it saddens me to realize that it’s fake. The closest I will ever get to Pandora is with a TV screen and a pair of 3D glasses.

To be honest, this was my first movie in 3D (it cost $3 extra dollars). I had to adjust to seeing in 3D. I am sure the girl next to me was getting sick and tired of me jumping and moving. With all the arrows, fire, and other things coming at you, who can sit still? Lord, help me if I ever saw a scary movie in 3D. I would probably pee on myself but that is getting off topic. Everything was coming at me and it was only a matter of time before I felt like I was going to get hurt. I know it is all in the screen but it was so surreal. I highly suggest paying the extra money and watching Avatar in 3D. It brings everything to life and you feel so involved. For example, when the Na'vi were screaming and shouting, all I wanted was to raise my bow and arrow in accordance and go into battle with them.

As I watched the movie, I noticed some similar plot elements. This movie immensely resembles a Disney film I saw long ago and still have a lot of love for. I will give you a hint: it includes an Indian tribe and white settlers from Jamestown. That is right; the movie has the skeleton structure of the Disney movie, Pocahontas. With fear of differences and a love story there is a war between the different kinds. White settlers come to a foreign land wanting something of value in the earth. But the land already belongs to natives that are closely intertwined with nature. Bet you cannot tell which story I am talking about; answer: both.

In this review, I will not do any spoiler alerts but I will say the movie is heartfelt, action packed, and meaningful. This is the best movie according to the box office and the best movie according to me. Avatar gets a strong five stars.

HOLLYWOOD "TIL DEATH" COUPLES

While premiering on the E! channel Sunday night, the Keeping Up with the Kardashians Klohe Kardashian and Lamar Odom was a beautiful ceremony packed with family drama in the episode. As the sparks were flying between Klohe and Lamar, I had a few sparks of my own: how dumb is it to get married after dating for a month? Then I though how many Hollywood marriages are just like this one where you know it is going to end. For example, Brittney Spears was married to Jason Allen Alexander for two days. I am not saying Klohe and Lamar are going to last two days because they have already lasted two months, but I am saying that I know this is not a “til death” couple (a couple who is married until one or both die/ no divorce).

Upon this observance, I reviewed some of Hollywood cutest couples. There are some marriages I worry about because we do not know how they are going to turn out. For example, the curse of TV couples like Kendra and Hank, Tori and Dean, and Speidi (Spencer and Heidi Pratt from The Hills). We all see how much they are in love but none of us know how long they will last. Everybody witnessed the Newlywed’s Nick Lachey and Jessica Simpson, Jon and Kate Gosselin (Jon and Kate Plus 8), or even the Bachelor. Another couple I worry about is Nick Cannon and Mariah Carey. They may not be a TV couple but they were so low key when dating and then all of a sudden make this big spectacle when they are married. If you have not been dating long enough to where the public get some sort of hint you are together then you have not been dating long enough. It is sad that most of these marriages are more physical connections than emotional or spiritual. Some Hollywood couples try and make an emotional connection out of the physical and that is why some relationships do not work out.

On a more positive not, there are plenty of couples I am routing for. I really want them to be “til death” couples because there are so few in Hollywood. Couples like Ashton Kutcher and Demi Moore, Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner, Ellen DeGeneres and Porsha de Rossi, Will and Jada Smith, Courtney Cox and David Arquette, Ryan Reynolds and Scarlett Johansson, Fergie and Josh Duhamel, David and Victoria Beckham, Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes, Hank Baskett and Kendra Wilkinson, Eva Longoria and Tony Parker, Heidi and Seal, and Beyonce and Jay-Z need to stay happily married. I would really like to see all these couples be “til death” couples.

On the other hand, there are some dating couples I would like to see get married. Most of these couples are seriously dating and a few already have families, while others are trying to keep their relationship on the down low: Halle Berry and Gabriel Aubrey, Jessica Biel and Justin Timberlake, Nicole Richie and Joel Madden, Blake Lively and Penn Bagely (Gossip Girl stars), Reese Witherspoon and Jake Gyllenhaal, Kim Kardashian and Reggie Bush, Ed Westwick and Jessica Szohr (Gossip Girl stars), Zac Efron and Vanessa Hudgens( High School Musical stars), and Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart (Twilight stars). All of these couples are so cute and have really great chemistry. Then there are couples like Nicole and Halle who need to get married because they already have families with their boyfriends. My overall hope and wish for these couples is to stay together and eventually get married.

In contrast, it is not too good to get attached to Hollywood relationships because nothing is promised. In Hollywood, there are couples who stay together for two days while it is a lot of work keeping those 10 year relationships and longer. Over the years there are plenty of couples we watch hook up, break up, then make up, then break up again. We all know those pairs who have broken up that broke everyone else’s hearts: Chris Brown and Rihanna (a good relationship gone bad), Reese Witherspoon and Ryan Phillippe, Cameron Diaz and Justin Timberlake, and the most heartbreaking of them all….Brad Pitt and Jenifer Aniston. We as spectators cannot get entirely attached to these relationships because Hollywood is always full of something better. Relationships ending make the divorce rate 50% in America but Hollywood has a divorce rate of like 80%. So pray for these Hollywood couples. We would like to see some of these cherished and developed relationships last….til death.

Fashion- Lady Gaga

We need a fashion prosecutor for this major offender.
Can you tell the difference....?

In the world of fashion, there are dos and don’ts. Most people can usually catch on to the trend and learn from others and their mistakes. Unfortunately, this has not happened to Lady Gaga. Someone needs to tell her she is not a fashion icon and nobody is going to catch on to her hideous trends. I do not know who this child’s stylist is but s/he needs to be fired. If she is not using one, she needs to get one. Is anyone else as concerned as I am for her expression of fashion (which she claims to love)? The outfits she is wearing are not cute. I not a fashion expert myself but I can tell when something is beyond the fashion police on the E! channel. The fashion police needs to give Lady Gaga her own category. I am not completely bashing on her because she is a great singer and a pretty girl but I am completely trashing her sense of style. Until she can walk out in public wearing something normal, I refuse to comment further more on her clothing. I think the world should give her an intervention...what do you think?

By the way...Perez Hilton went as Lady Gaga for Halloween, on the left and Lady Gaga as herself performing on the right.

Looking at Lady Gaga's video, it looks completely outrageous...not in a good way. She looks deranged. Her outfits are totally speaking for themselves. She has such a pretty face and a beautiful singing voice but why does she have to make it look like she is from outer space? Does she enjoy portraying an alien? Who knows what is going through her head. Try listening to this song without sound...it looks like a mental institution. If I ever woke up to this video, I would be terrified. In addition, I am not surprised her boobs have already popped out of one outfit, because of her skimpy outfits but now we are just waiting for her couche to fall out of another outfit (that red outfit in the end). Every weird and unexplainable thing is wrapped up in her Bad Romance video. This may be a strange video but it is a great song.

Greek- Cappie & Casey

The hot new young couple on the small screen

I may not have gone to the theatres lately because of school but I have been keeping up with my shows. One of my many shows is Greek. I am obsessed with Casey and Cappie like I am with Meredith and Derek from Grey's Anatomy....I mean u could hear the hallelujah chorus when Mer& Der got married. Who did not jump on their couch? ...Even though their marriage was a post-it note. Who cares in God's eyes they are married. This brings me to another famous couple. They are younger, more modern, and in college.....yes it is Casey and Cappie from Greek. They are finally back together! In the mean time, I have been keeping up with Scott Michael Foster and Spencer Grammer's twitter pages; he, Spencer Grammer, and the rest of the world are ecstatic to see the college couple reunite...." I'm so glad you liked tonight's episode and all I can say is finally. We all so waited for this. Especially Spencer. So yeah finally." Maybe he is not as excited as I am but I have enough excitement for all of us. Greek is finally where it needs to be.

On the other hand...I see a Rebecca& Evan thing going on. Rebecca has been slipping hints about her feelings for Evan ever since the bad foursome mixer. She has made her rounds in the show, so why not go back to the season premiere and go for Evan again? They did have a good friendship and I think they can have a....who am I kidding? This relationship will never work out. They are better friends. Rebecca and Evan together as a couple are like me watching Violet and Pete off of Private Practice. They just do not make a cute couple. We will see where the writers and producers go with this one. For the record, if Cappie and Casey break up one more time they will officially be following in Mer& Der footsteps. I want to see those two get married. For now while they are still in college, let us just wish them the best of luck while they are in love.

Grey's Anatomy (info)

George O'Malley and Izzie Stevens

Attention! All Grey’s Anatomy fans.....spoiler alert. According to E! and other sources, it is clear that T.R. Knight (TK) and Katherine Heigl are leaving the show.

TK is leaving a 14million dollar contract to return to Broadway. Good for him, if that is what he really wants. He claims working on the set for seasons four and five has been a bit of a struggle. Conflicts like not having a decent line of communication with the producer. He definitely did not like the direction his character, George O’Malley, was going. “Knight returned to work on season 4, but the actor struggled with the story line in which George cheated on his wife Callie (Sara Ramirez) with Izzie (Katherine Heigl). And once George went MIA from the beginning of season 5, the star came to the conclusion that his character had expired” (Entertainment Weekly). Not only that, but why was George the only intern out of his friend to get held back? Unfortunately, George was slowly fading away: “This fall, Knight was surprised to see his character George O'Malley all but vanish from the show -- for the first nine episodes of season 5, he appeared on screen a total of only 48 minutes, compared to 114 for Sandra Oh's Christina” (Entertainment Weekly). TK is walking away from 14 million dollars. Sorry, I had to say that again for the sake of all that money going to waste and the even bigger issue of missing George. He is returning to the place he was first discovered to be a Grey’s star. If TK is happy I will get over my grief and be happy with him. TK knows what he is doing and his last words in the interview are, “There are a lot of people who would like to be in my position. But in the end, I need to be fulfilled in my work.” He has spoken. Now to get a glimpse of TK, catch him in his newest role on Broadway in Lend Me a Tenor, set to premiere in February 2010.

On a slightly hotter note, Katherine Heigl....season sixth? At the end nobody was sure if George and Izzie were both dead or in that in-between stage. Word on the street is that Heigl has been rumored to leave the show for almost a year. I heard things from she wants a movie career or she want to do more. I even heard she was whining about Izzie not having a bigger story line. Well are you happy now? Izzie and George completely stole the spot light from Meredith and Derrick. Honestly, the show is kind of called, Grey’s Anatomy. Who really knows what the truth is besides Heigl and Shonda Rhimes. Fact is she has shot a few episodes of season six. I have no clue what is going to happen for the rest of the season. The new word on the street is she has renegotiated her contract and is not leaving the show. There is hope for Izzie.

Update info on Izzie Stevens: She has done five episodes but then plans to take a break. I heard they want to fire her character or something in that nature to temporarily relieve her from the show.

Ladies and Gentlemen, we have a little less than four weeks to prepare ourselves for the comeback of Grey’s Anatomy. Technically we have 27 days. Everyone make sure you tune in September 24, Thursday night at 9/8c for the season six (2hour) premiere night of Grey’s Anatomy.
