Brooklyn's Finest

Brooklyn’s Finest is Training Day with a touch of Martin Scorsese’s The Departed.

Who is Brooklyn’s finest? ...Well, that is the last man standing when it all ends; key word: integrity.

This movie brings the streets to life and gives you a disturbing taste of reality of cop life in New York City. Crime is real, drugs are real, and death is most certainly real. In the end it misses nobody. Each time a gun was fire in the movie it felt so real; I was struck with an alarming amount of fear each time I heard a gunshot. With all the language, nudity, and bullets, the movie had a very realistic factor. Throughout the plot, you watch men grow a pair and sadly watch some loose theirs. Either way everybody was out to prove something.

I really felt a connection with Ethan Hawke’s character because it reminded me of his character in Training Day. His character is a genuinely good guy in both movies who is influenced by the dark side. Who wants to do what is right but is forced to do otherwise where he feels he has no choice. I was really pulling for him because he had a wife and kids to come home to. He was the good guy being tangled up in a situation he could not handle. From the very beginning...he could be the hero, the good guy, Brooklyn’s finest because he had the most to prove. Sal was the only cop motivated by his family. Like in Training Day, his character learned to do things he never thought he would do on the job.

To be honest when I walked out of the theatre, I was so stunned at how deep the movie was; I could not even think of what to say beside... “That was deep!” Once I re-watched Training Day, I found the words to explain my thoughts; I knew the story I was want to tell.

This movie gets a solid four stars based on story line and script. It was a very realistic movie and sometimes people need a little disturbance to wake themselves up from these false hopes given by unreliable sources. Brooklyn’s Finest is currently in theatres and I highly suggest ONLY mature audiences go see the film.

Disclaimer: This movie is a hard Rated R- serious mature audiences only.

Alice in Wonderland

Alice in Wonderland is just another Disney film remade by the wonderful Tim Burton. Most people do like his twisted spin on stories, myself included, and this is another success. It was hard to put into word because Alice in Wonderland is something one needs to see for them self in order to understand; I will do my best to give an insightful review.
The plot takes into action when a girl named Alice falls into a hole that leads to a place called Wonderland. This dream like place is no stranger to Alice for she believes it is her dream which in fact it is a real place to where she has been before.

While convinced Alice is dreaming she runs into characters like Tweedledee, Tweedledum, blue caterpillar, and famous the Mad Hatter. Alice does not realize she has been to Wonderland before or realizes her destiny.

Once in deep into Wonderland, we come across the ever so loved Queen of Hearts. Helena Bonham Carter does an excellent job of portraying a (ironically) heartless, comical, high-maintenance queen. This charming big headed queen was the film’s main source of comic relief. Her mood swings, demanding attitude, and belittling of people is depicted in a hilarious fashion.

Burton’s main man/ fan favorite, Johnny Depp was such an ease to watch. His effortless interpretation of the Mad Hatter was the best I have ever seen. I absolutely love Johnny Depp in every character he has played because he leaves himself out of the equation and puts 100% of the character out there.

Kudos to Tim Burton, Helena Bonham Carter, Johnny Depp, and our breakout star, Mia Wasikowska. This movie gets three and a half stars for entertainment, artwork, and story line but lacks in the “wow” category. The 3-D was a bonus for the costumes and make-up because it brought everything to life. I truly enjoyed such amusing film; it is something to watch when you want to get lost in someone else thoughts. The adventure film was exactly what I expected: it did not disappoint nor exceed. I applaud the cast and crew for creating an accurate yet twisted adventure for Alice in Wonderland.

Valentine's Day

Even though Valentine’s Day passed, I finally got around to seeing the movie. With a star studded cast, I absolutely loved the movie. Even though the overall theme in the movie was love, I identified more with one particular character (Kara Monahan- Jessica Biel) and shared her same outlook on Valentine’s Day. How else is a single person supposed to get through?....eat a box of chocolate while watching The Notebook?...Not like it has ever happened, but I'm just saying. The quality in the movie that attracted me the most was its exploration of various way Valentine’s days can be spent. Truth is, everyone spends theirs differently; some makeup and others break up. Valentine’s Day showed how all kinds of people spend their valentine day: married people, boyfriends and girlfriends, cheaters, gay people, teenagers, children, singles, and best friends. Everybody looks upon Valentines differently but everybody goes through it one way another: having sex, spending quality time, or, my favorite for single people, throw an “I hate Valentine’s Day” party. The movie was romantic yet gave plenty of laughs. There was never a dull moment and if there was for some people, then they were able to focus on some sexy actors (there were plenty of them). The movie excelled in both categories, comedy and romance. Valentine’s Day gets a solid four stars. Although the holiday has passed, if you get a chance try a catch it, rent, or buy it on DVD. Valentine’s Day, starring....well, everybody!
